His Name is Incomplete By Rabbi Eli Teitelbaum The very name of Amolek (240) equals the word "sofek," meaning doubt. Amolek’s intention is to put doubts in a person’s mind and question Hashem’s ability or desire to fully control all events happening down on earth. He denies things like hashgacha proties, that Hashem is in full control of all that happens, and claims that it’s all chance and coincidence, and survival of the fittest. Yes- one can believe in the existence of G-d but still deny that G-d is in full control of all that happens. "Perhaps Hashem allows His Angels of Destruction free reign to do they please? Who says that everything that happens in the world is of His personal doing or direction? Just look at all the terrible disasters and tragedies taking place in the world. Can it be that He allows it? If He sees all, then why did He allow a Holocaust? Why does He allow suicide bombers to blow up innocent men, women, and children," he asks?
A Jew believes that all that happens at every moment is directed by Him Alone. Whenever a terrible tragedy takes place Amolek takes advantage of the situation and implants doubts into a person’s mind and tries to get people to believe that not everything is under Hashem’s personal control. He tries to convince us that Hashem does not care about what goes on down on earth. He denies that there is reward and punishment. This is what is meant by "ein Hashem sholem"- Amolek tries to inject skepticism into our belief in Hashgacha Protis, and tries to convince us that the tragedy proves that there is chance and coincidence. "While Hashem may have created the world, He allows it to be governed by the laws of nature," is his constant argument. His aim is to weaken our belief in hashgacha protis by constantly putting doubts in our mind. "True! Hashem took us out of Mitzrayim, but then he forsook us," was his claim. And so when Klal Yisroel could not find water in the desert, the Jews asked "Ha’yesh Hashem b’kirbeinu im eiyin?" Amolek had succeeded in implanting doubt in their minds despite all the miracles they had witnessed with their very own eyes. Where are the miracles of yesteryear? Perhaps Hashem has chas v’shalom abandoned us and doesn’t see or care about what’s happening to His Chosen Nation. Whenever there is a catastrophe, tragedy, or misfortune strikes, Amolek is always there planting questions in our minds and getting us to question Hashem’s presence. He attacks us when he detects a weakening in our faith. As long as there is even a miniscule of doubt in our mind of Hashem’s constant presence, Hashem’s Name, - referring to His attributes, - remain incomplete. It is only with the arrival of Mashiach when Amolek will be totally wiped off the face of the earth, that Hashem and His Name will be complete once again. |
